100 push ups

In our previous post we mentioned being able to do 100 push ups. In case you want to join us in reaching this goal, here's a good site to develop the ability to do so:

We'll add these work outs to our routine.

Chapter 2

Five days have passed since the start of our project. Now we take stock of our progress by having an interview with Pahlavan Alborz.

Pahlavan Sahand: Pahlavan Alborz, we've been hard at work for the past couple of days. Sweating and working out at home. How do you feel?

Pahlavan Alborz: I feel great! There is a great power rising within me!

PS: Compared to your final goal, how far do you think you've come?

PA: Well, it's hard to measure Pahlavan-ness in numbers, but if one has to, for instance you could state that a Pahlavan has to be able to do 100 push ups without much effort. After six days of working out I can already do 15.

PS: That's amazing, that's 15% of your goals achieved in as little as 5 days. Aren't you afraid of reaching your goal too soon?

PA: Reaching a goal too soon only means you have to set higher goals for yourself.

PS: Well said Pahlavan. Now, something else. When you started this project you weighed a respectable 115.8 kilograms. Now you're down to 114.3, aren't you afraid of losing your Pahlavan-ness if you continue like this?

PA: There is no need to worry about that. True Pahlavan-ness is in the inside. And if anything, the amount of Pahlavan-ness per kilogram has improved.

PS: A final question. How will the project proceed?

PA: After days of rigorous exercise at home we are confident to take on the gyms. Tomorrow we will subscribe and in this way take our efforts to the next level. And don't worry dear fans, we will take a camera crew with us to document the event.

There you have it dear folks, as you can see the project goes along smoothly. If you have any comments for the brothers, let us know under the posts.

Our Great-Great-Grandfather

In the first post of this blog we mentioned our Great-Great-Grandfather Nayeb Ali Khan, champion wrestler of Teheran. Here's a picture (on the right with the longer wrestling pants) of a man that could be him. In the old tekst referred to as Nayeb Ali Khan Tehrani, but in the book referred to as Nayeb Ali Khan Malek.

Dear Brother...

...there are no mountains in the Netherlands.

What's a Pahlavan?

The response to our blog has been overwhelming. Our thanks for all the support! However, some people were a bit puzzled as to 1) what Pahlavans are, and 2) what it exactly is that we, the Pahlavan Brothers, aim to achieve.

The first question is easy to answer: Originally the Pahlavans were men who practiced the Persian "traditional sports". Gathering in gymnasiums called Zourkhanehs (Power-Houses) they would work out with clubs and other weights and wrestle while other athletes sang about old heroes to inspire sportsmanship and honourful and heroic deeds. (for more info go to the wikipage)

The second question is a bit harder to answer. Since yesterday we, the Pahlavan brothers, are claiming our Pahlavan-ness. This means aspiring to physical and mental greatness. You will not find us in a traditional Zourkhaneh. Rather, as 21st century Pahlavans, we believe the world is one big Zourkhaneh. From this day onward, you will find us doing push ups on sidewalks, shadowboxing in the parks, and meditating on the poetic beauty of a wilting flower on the mountaintops.

In fact, we believe we are joining a worldwide re-awakening of the Pahlavan spirit. Evidence of this can be found on the internet. Witness this boy. Bullied daily, until he found his inner Pahlavan. You can rest assured, he will not be messed with again:

Even nature has its Pahlavans. Behold the Honeybadger. Honeybadger don't care. He don't give a shit. He's a Pahlavan!

Somewhere between the path of the bullied boy and the the honeybadger lies the path of the Pahlavan Brothers. Wish us well. Leave us your comments in the comment section.

Chapter 1: It starts!

Welcome dear reader to the new blog of the Pahlavan Brothers. A bit of introduction about who we are and what we aim to achieve. We are Alborz and Sahand Sahebdivani, descendents of famous Pahlavans such as our Great-Great-Grandfather Nayeb Ali-Khan-e Sahebdivani, wrestling champ who's live tragically ended after an unfortunate fall on the mat, and our Great-Grandfather Shirdel (Lionheart), famous for robbing goats, sheep, people and stealing hearts.

Now, we're as much Pahlavans (heroes) as they are. We've saved countless of lives, traveling across continents and the seven seas and even battling hordes of alien invaders. Demons, assasins and many other evildoers tremble at the mention of our names.

Unfortunately, all this is in the virtual world of the game device. From this day onward, we claim our rightful place as Pahlavans, in the actual world!

Now, how do go about to become actual pahlavans? Well, in Persian tradition a Pahlavan is a man of formidable mental and physical skill. And since years of virtual training have sharpened our minds to perfection (we can kill a man just by thinking it) the physical side needs... well... some upkeep.
